Have you ever wondered whether solar power is worth it even though the place you live in might not get that much sun? What about in Canada where we get snow half of the year. These are questions we wanted to answer at the biggest Hackathon of North America: Hack The North 2022. On Paper Calculation Although solar energy generators typically operate at 75% efficiency on average, this figure can vary depending on factors such as regional weather conditions....
Background One of the core engineering courses is the famous group-based design course where a bunch of real-world clients come with a problem. The fact we build something real and see its impact is very rewarding and its one of my favourite courses. The story is also really interesting so enjoy. The problem The client my team assigned to was the London Ontario Learning Apiary (LOLA Bees for short). LOLA came to us with a bunch of problems....
Background This was the first hackathon and even though its not my best project, I still thought its interesting enough to put up. Maybe an excuse to re-visit the idea too in the future :) Inspiration Have you ever tried to park at any semi-popular event? The endless circling, the frustration of not finding a spot, and the exasperation of getting a parking ticket are all too familiar to city dwellers....

Finding the prime factorization of big numbers is known to be computationally expensive to do and is the concept our current digital security and encryption methods are built on. This is because multiplying 2 prime numbers together is way faster and easier than finding the prime factorizations themselves. This is why Shor’s algorithm, an algorithm that allows quantum computers to efficiently (in polynomial time compared to exponential) find the prime factors of a given composite number, got a lot of attention and was seen as a threat to against digital infrastructure and security....
